Project #1- Learning Philosophy and Video

Grade: 100% (A)

Explanation:

The purpose of this assignment was to reflect on our learning philosophy and think about how it has changed or evolved over the course. In addition to writing a philosophy statement we were challenged to encapsulate our ideas into a video

The philosophy itself was intended to address the following questions specifically:

  • How do you now define learning?

  • How do you now define teaching?

  • How has your philosophy changed (or not) or been refined since the start of the course?

  • How does learning happen?

  • What roles should the teacher and student play in this new ecology of learning?

  • How do you know when learning takes place? Are there any visible indicators or signs to demonstrate that the student has learned anything?

  • What is the role of technology in your learning philosophy? Provide an example of how you plan to implement it in the future.

Reflection:

I choose to include this project in my portfolio because this reflection on my philosophy of learning really began to evolve from my previous ideas of what learning was and what it looked like. I realized that the ideas of teaching and learning had come to a turning point since I had gotten my undergrad and much of what I learned as a promising educator and from my previous experiences as a student had shifted to a more student centered approach. This was a very exciting revelation and something that was familiar to me because of my time that I spent in early childhood education. I

It was also during this time that I started to accept the unique ways that tech could really make an impact on learning for all learners but specifically those who sought out non-traditional learning environments.

I think I agree with you that your ideas have stayed mostly the same except for more nuanced understandings the social and collective ways of learning and working. I appreciate your point about learning being life long and constant and needing to equip students with the skills and tools needed to learn continuously. Your presentation was ] professional and really captured the essence of your philosophy very well! Thanks and all the best!”
