Project #3- Captivate Project: Child Supervision

Grade: 100% (A)

Explanation:

For this project we were challenged with exploring the program Captivate to provide more experience in using various instructional design tools.

The assignment was to create a short course using Captivate and we were also encouraged to contextualize the course to align with our own goals.

In my past courses I focused much of my energy and project content on young learners but for this course I choose to take a different path and create content that can be used when training my teaching team.

I have recently found myself in a position where I will be the supervising teacher of a teaching team of three teachers including myself. My teaching team will also be entirely new to the early learning center where I teach at and require training from the ground up. This has left a lot of options and opportunity to create trainings that can be used not only by me but all of the supervising teachers and administration at our center, taking the time to create these trainings will be meaningful to all involved and also help to create consistent and up-to-date materials.

The early childhood field doesn’t get a lot of credit and there is much more involved in the job than someone not as familiar to the field aware.

The topic that I choose to take on for this project is the supervision of children.

My goal was to identify the different types of supervision and then highlight the components that play a part in providing appropriate supervision.

Reflection:

This project was challenging, I felt confident about the content that I had chosen as well my knowledge about the topic but designing a course using Captivate was a learning curve. There wasn’t a lot of flexibility in the design itself and the rigidness of the program put a damper on my creative abilities.

I felt that there was a lot of benefit in using this type of program because the overall goal of the professor of the this course was to give us experience using a variety of tools that we might come into contact with as instructional designers. I was thankful for the insight to use this particular product even though it isn’t the most user friendly because it gave me a lot of experience on how to adapt some of the preconceived ideas, I developed the realization that I may not always have access to my preferred tools and sometimes the goal becomes just making it work with what tools you have access to.

I also gained a lot of experience in how to save items and use Amazon Web Services which I had never done before but I see a lot of usefulness in being knowledgeable about storage tools like AWS.
